Fatima Memorial System and NUR Foundation held a lecture on Breastfeeding to coincide with the annual World Breastfeeding Week. The lecture was presented by Dr. Inayat Thaver, Dean of Research, NUR-FMHCM&D (NUR Centre of Research & Policy and Fatima Memorial College of Medicine and Dentistry) entitled ““Breast Feeding: A winning Goal responding to MDG countdown”. The lecture was attended by healthcare professionals and students to create awareness on the importance of breastfeeding. As part of the week, Fatima Memorial Hospital will also be setting up a Lactation Management Clinic to guide new mothers on breastfeeding. Previously, a lactation manager was available however with the clinic a dedicated staff will be present throughout the day for guidance.
World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual celebration which is held every year since 1992 from 1 to 7 August in more than 120 countries The goal of WBW is to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life which yields tremendous health benefits, providing critical nutrients, protection from deadly diseases such as pneumonia and fostering growth and development.
