Nur Center for Research and Policy (NCRP) in collaboration with the Policy and Strategic Planning Unit (PSPU) organized the National Public Health Conference 2015 entitled ‘Stock-Taking: Pakistan, MDGs and SDGs- Addressing System Integration Challenges in Public Health’.
The Conference was organized to bring together key experts from the field of Public Health with an objective of providing stewardship to public health professionals through fostering linkages and partnerships, creating learning opportunities and organizing popular public health voice. The participants fully endorsed the idea of developing a platform for voicing Public Health concerns and appreciated the efforts of NCRP and PSPU in developing such a forum.
The opening note at the conference was given by Mrs. Shahima Rehman – Founder President – NUR Foundation & Chairperson Executive Committee, Fatima Memorial System followed by Ali Bahadur Qazi, Director PSPU informed the audience of the status of health facilities in Punjab, the challenges and the opportunities. Dr Syeda Zahida Sarwar emphasized upon the need of an intersectoral approach and stakeholder liaison.
The speakers and panelists included Dr. Nisar Cheema from USAID Deliver, Dr. Tahir Manzoor from UNICEF, Dr. Hasan Raza from USAID, Dr. Anwar Janjua from TRF Plus, Dr. Shakila Zaman from Lahore School of Public Health, Dr. Ehsanullah Tarin from Punjab University, Dr Tasleem Akhtar from NCRP & Khyber Medical University and Dr Shabnum Sarfraz from Marie Stopes Society.
The closing note was given by Rana Mashood, Minister for School Education, Higher Education & Youth Affairs, Government of Punjab. He lauded the efforts of NCRP and PSPU and agreed to the need of a holistic approach towards combatting public health challenges in Pakistan.
Students from various local and international universities; LUMS, LSE, University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon and University of Nottingham, University of Health Sciences, FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry, CMH Medical College, Baqai Medical University, Lahore College for Women, Government College University also participated in the event as Observers.
